LAMPS, Local 104 of the Canadian Federation of Students, was founded in the summer of 1969. LAMPS represents approximately 2,500 students studying all year round on campus and around the world via distance education. Our mission is to represent our membership both on and off campus, advocate on their behalf, and serve and link them to Laurentian University and the community at large. Our general membership is comprised of full-time Envision (distance education) as well as part-time on campus and Envision students. LAMPS expanded its mandate to fill a void on campus. We recognized that the needs of mature students were not being met by the University’s structure, and that not only were many of our members mature students, but the challenges facing part-time students and mature students were similar.
Many have asked what does ‘mature’ mean? We feel all University students are mature. We want all students at Laurentian to know that any undergraduate student who wishes to hold membership with and participate in LAMPS may apply for membership regardless if they must pay fees to SGA or AEF.
